Situated on the Rio Arade estuary, this ancient port has survived over 2,000 years to become a bustling town, popular with both the locals and tourists. The narrow cobbled streets, lined with delightful restaurants and small shops, wind down towards the harbour and the long sandy beach which extends to Praia da Rocha. Many people use the beach for water sports and sunbathing, while other prefer to explore the more quiet and secluded coves.
