Ferragudo is one of the most attractive traditional fishing villages on the Algarve and still not yet overpowered by the tourist trade. Village life still revolves around the quayside square with its narrow cobbled streets and steps, meandering up from the old quay to the summit and the church. During the summer months the square is decorated with garlands, fairy lights and a stage where live acts and bands perform at the weekends. Ferragudo still retains a truly Algarvian feel which is complemented with excellent beaches and a local quayside market where you can buy fresh fish landed from the boats tied up a few yards away. Its close proximity to other well known areas of the Algarve make it ideal for exploring and sightseeing. A few minutes drive will bring you to the bustling town of Carvoeiro, Portimao, the second largest town and port famous for its sardines, the quaint fishing village of Alvor and for the younger and more energetic, Praia da Rocha.
