Goldra is a few minutes drive from Loule - a charming inland town which was once a Roman settlement and where the remains of a ruined castle can still be seen in the old quarter. With an interesting indoor market 6 days a week - excellent for fish, fruit and vegetables, Loule is also a local handicrafts centre for buying the colourful porcelain and pottery for which the area is renowned. The wide avenues, bordered by many pavement bars, cafes and restaurants, provide many distractions and offers a wide variety of shopping. Here in this area, as a complete contrast to the nearby cosmopolitan towns of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, you can sample the rustic Algarvean villages full of character and charm, originating from Moorish times and scenery which has remained virtually unchanged for centuries.
